Check these in order
- 1. Engine not running: no alternator input. Start the engine and check voltage at the DC-DC charger input.
- 2. Blown fuse: check every fuse, in the vehicle, inline, at the battery and in the van.
- 3. DC-DC charger fault: check the status lights, input voltage and wiring against the manual.
- 4. Wrong charger settings: set the right battery type (lithium, AGM or gel) on every charger and solar controller.
- 5. Battery issue: check terminals are tight, and test the battery voltage and condition.
- 6. Faulty wiring or earth: look for corroded lugs, loose crimps and poor earth points.
- 7. Too much voltage drop: cable that's too thin or too long stops chargers reaching full voltage.
The one tool you need
A multimeter will find most of these faults in minutes. Measure voltage at the battery, at the charger input and at the charger output, with the engine running and then off.
